Josef Gottlander is a Swedish opera bass with an education from the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He has studied under renowned vocal coaches such as Bodil Øland and Reinaldo Marcias.
Throughout his career, Josef has performed several leading roles, including Sarastro in Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Staatsanwalt Loering in the world premiere of Bent Lorentzen’s opera Der Steppenwolf with the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. He also covered the role of Karl in the critically acclaimed production of David Bruce’s opera Nothing at Den Jyske Opera, where he performed one show as Karl and also sang in the chorus.
In addition to his opera performances, Josef has appeared as a soloist in several major concerts. His recent appearances include Fauré’s Requiem and Lars-Erik Larsson’s A God Disguised at Visby Cathedral. He has also performed Mozart’s Requiem, the role of Jesus in Bach’s St. John Passion, and was the soloist in Bach’s Reformation Cantata (No. 79) with the Randers Chamber Orchestra. Other significant works in his repertoire include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and parts of Handel’s Messiah.
